“I love painting still life, landscapes, portraiture, and other genres, but capturing the figure on canvas in a meaningful yet skillful way is my greatest challenge. I am especially interested in painting women as both strong and beautiful. I look for models who exude that soulful aspect of the feminine, that part of them that is mythic, heroic, compassionate and uplifting. These are the qualities I attempt to tease out in each form, face, gesture and symbol I put in a painting. I guess I do this because I am moved by these qualities and want to inherit them myself; painting tends to be autobiographical after all. But it does feel like the world is calling out for more of those characteristics, too.
Nothing is more satisfying to me than people becoming deeply touched by my work and sharing that tender emotion freely, even if they sometimes don’t quite understand what it is.”
