About Oru Bose
Painter, Architect, Sportsman, Adventurer
Oru Bose is the founding principal of Bose International Architects and Planners, with offices in Warsaw, Delhi and Santa Fe. Recipient of many awards, he is an internationally recognized architect known for his creative and bold design.
His paintings reflect the bold characteristics of his architectural design and his approach to composition of movement.
He attended Columbia University, Harvard University and Pratt Institute New York, where he obtained his Master’s degree in Architecture.
Highlights of his career include the capital city study for Albany, the master plan and design of downtown Orlando, Florida.
Bose was hired as the director of development for the master plan and design of Disney’s 27 000 acre property and the most ambitious project at the time: the development of Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
He joined HOK, the world’s largest architecture firm. Later, he founded Bose International and provided design services for various international projects.
Oru Bose was a track athlete in his college days, making a mark in the 100 meter sprints. He was also a professional tennis player competing across the European circuits. He practiced equestrian sports and competed in Grand Prix Jumping and Hunter Jumper events regionally, winning numerous events and championships with his warm-blood horses.
He is also interested in winter sports including parachute-jumping, delta-wing flying from glacier tops, riding from the hills of New Zealand, and has ridden with the Swiss bobsled team thundering past at 80 miles an hour. He now competes in the senior Olympics, where he has won multiple gold medals.
He trained at the International School of Race Driving in England and has collected and raced over 50 exotic and vintage cars.
Bose is a licensed pilot for instrument and multi-engine rated aircrafts of various specifications. He is also a certified aerobatic pilot for fighter jets.
Never missing an opportunity to try something new, he has swam with dolphins in the Key West, flown over Mt. Everest where he could almost touch the snow, went on safaris in Africa where his vehicle was chased by a rogue elephant, and shot photographs of Royal Bengal tigers in the forests of Central India.
Recently, he walked a tiger on a leash through a canyon home to 27 free-roaming wild adult tigers who are looked after by a monk and his temple in Thailand.
Bose has travelled to over 50 countries, photographing his adventures, and learning over six languages and many of the local dialects of India. He finds humor in almost every aspect of life.
Currently he has been intensely exploring various textures and forms. He paints with water colors and produces mixed media drawings in his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
